We love campfire cooking and got so many compliments on our giant pot of Hungarian Goulash or Hot Dog Stew that we wanted to create a recipe you could make at home over a stove or in a cast iron pot over a campfire. It’s a delicious filling stew featuring delicious flavours and everyone’s favourite camping ingredient – hot dogs! Check out that featured picture and post of the Hungarian Goulash Recipe:
Follow the directions below if making it on a campfire – if making it at home substitute a cast iron pot for a dutch oven and prepare on your stovetop following the same steps. Happy cooking!

Looks awesome could you substitute smoked sausage for hotdogs?
Kerrie @ Family Food and Travel says
Absolutely! That would be delicious!

The recipe never calls for you to add the potatoes. They go in with peppers, onions and hotdogs I assume?
Kerrie @ Family Food and Travel says
Yes! Thanks Joe for catching that – I’ve added it into the directions now.

I love how easy this recipe looks! It’s always great to be able to make an entire meal in a single pot over a campfire – It’s the way they did it in the old days, in the wild west! I think you’re ready for a good trail ride!
