This three ingredient appetizer will change the way you throw parties. Perfect for any season these Prosciutto Cups with Apples and Horseradish Cheese are bite sized morsels with a perfect balance of savoury, sweet and crispy. The short cooking time allows for the apples to remain their crispness while getting coated in delicious horseradish cheese.
The appetizers are quick to make and can be made a day in advance and heated prior to the party. Substitute apples for pear to add another variation of what is sure to be a new family favourite.
The star ingredient in these Prosciutto Cups is the Ivanhoe Horseradish Cheddar Cheese it has the texture of smooth mild cheese but a tangy flavour that pairs well with sweet crisp apples and salty prosciutto. If you don’t live in Ontario and can’t purchase Ivanhoe Cheese substitute with a sharp aged cheddar. Ivanhoe Cheese has been made in Ivanhoe, ON for over one hundred years. For more than five years Ivanhoe has been part of the Gay Lea Foods Cooperative and continue to focus on producing artisan cheddar cheeses to suit every palate.
Once the prosciutto is pressed into the greased cups fill with apple cubes. Make sure they fill to the top. The more apple, the better flavour the appetizer will have.
Final touch is topping with Ivanhoe Horseradish Cheese and popping them in the oven.
- 12 slices of prosciutto thinly sliced
- 2 crisp apples gala, crispin, honeycrisp etc.
- 1 cup grated Ivanhoe Horseradish Cheese
-
Preheat oven to 400F
-
Cut each piece of prosciutto in half and push into a greased mini muffin tin.
-
Cut apple into small cubes and distribute between the cups.
-
Top each cup with grated cheese.
-
Place in the oven for 10 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted.
-
Remove from muffin tin and cool on wire rack.
-
*Can be made up to one day ahead and reheated at time of event.
The finished product is so delicious it could be served at a dinner party, or any party, and even as an after school snack.

I like the idea but am not sure about the horseradish cheese – I might just have to go for Gouda or Emmentaler & just a hint of horseradish :-)
