Mornings are hectic around our house. Boys off to school, my husband off to school and me off to work = chaos! So many mornings lately I have run out the door with a coffee and granola bar in hand. While satisfying, it is not the nutrition, nor the foods I want to start my day off with. Lately I have been trying a green smoothie to start the day off with protein, necessary vitamins and antioxidants and I have not only enjoyed the smoothie, but I feel better as the day goes on.
- Vitamix or high powered blender
- Kale
- Apple
- Celery
- Juice (I use mango/orange)
- Hemp Hearts
- Agave Nectar or Honey
- Water
My favourite feature of the Vitamix is that it blends the fruit and veggies to a perfect juice without losing the nutrients in the pulp of the vegetables and fruits. While I love my juicer, the Vitamix is absolutely my go-to for making perfect smoothies. My other favourite part about smoothies is that you can use up some odds and ends around the kitchen. In this smoothie I combined some half eaten apples (my kids seem to only like the 1st half of an apple), some partially wilted Kale and celery with frozen ends. Combined together and mixed up they were the perfect morning energy booster. Plus, the combination of hemp hearts adds protein, fights inflammation, balances hormones and provides an immunity boost with Omega-3 fat.
- 3 large leaves of deveined Kale
- 1 Apple
- 3 stalks of Celery
- 1 cup Juice I used mango/orange
- 2 tbsp Hemp Hearts
- Agave Nectar or Honey to taste
- 1 cup Water
-
Please all ingredients in your Vitamix and blend until smooth.
-
Add ice for a slushie texture or pour over ice for an ice cold smoothie.
-
Serve and drink immediately.
What are your favourite ingredients for a morning green smoothie?

I wish I had a Vitamix or a blender like it. My bullet sounded like it was going to die today when I was making my breakfast shake.
This smoothie looks delicious!

Those sound pretty good. My mom usually makes me a fruit smoothie in the mornings when I stay over my parents’ house, sometimes. :)

It’s certainly a bright color! I can see where it would taste really good with the apple and celery starring.

I love the color, but I’d have to omit the Kale, it’s just too strong! I might substitute fresh carrot juice and a little ice for bulk.

I love to fix green smoothies though my recipe is different then yours. It really is a healthy drink to start off the day.
Yours sounds lovely.
