Today was a great day. So many things about it were fantastic, but as I mentioned in the last post the boys SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT. While I know the capitals symbolize that I am shouting at you, it is actually meant to represent me jumping up and down, dancing, laughing and squealing they SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT. Growing up my mom used to read to me the Bernstein Bears books but my favorite was “Bears in the Night” about the bears adventure out in the night by themselves. Looking back now I wonder why I didn’t find this book scary, but it leads me to wonder if my boys have been trying to create their own version of this book “Twins in the Night.” But, it appears that Mean Mom has prevailed and all “Twins in the Night” sequels have been cancelled. Or, at least I hope so!
After the glorious sleep I woke up groggy and felt kind of hungover all day. Like my body was trying to figure out what this 8 hours of sleeping thing was. After breakfast the boys and I got ready to go to gymnastics. We picked up my step-father and headed to the gym. It was another fun morning. I sure do love Parent and Tot gymnastics. Great invention for little ones.
I came home and dropped the boys off, changed and headed out for an afternoon and evening to myself. Pure awesomeness.
I had lunch with a friend at a cool vegetarian bakery and ate my daily fat content in a grilled aged cheddar and onion jam sandwich (made on potato cheese bread). I then did a bunch of errands, including getting my car cleaned (there must have been 10lbs of cracker bits in there!), going to a variety of stores, buying the boys potties (gah!) and then I went and donated blood. If this isn’t something you do, I would highly recommend making it a priority. I hadn’t donated since before the boys were born but I knew I wanted to get back into the habit now that the boys were older. It is so important. So very important.
I met a friend for dinner where I ordered a low fat salad with light dressing in an attempt to balance out the sandwich at lunch. Then I continued on my errands visiting a local health food store, a dollar store and the dreaded Wal-Mart. To say that I saw a few WalMartians would be an understatement. There were some strange creatures there tonight.
I came home and got the update from my husband on the day and Sleep Training.
Naptime
Boys went to bed without at fight at 12:30pm and slept until 3:15 :)
Bedtime
The boys had a great afternoon playing outside and headed to bed at 7pm again without a fight or a complaint.
One woke up at 6am crying. I was really unsure what to do at this point because it was technically morning. But, deciding I didn’t want to get up at 6am every day I went in hugged him, told him I loved him and instructed him back to sleep. He continued to cry. My husband then went in and repeated what I had done. After about 15 minutes of crying, he fell back asleep.
The other did not wake up at all!!
At 7am both boys woke up happy and ready to start their day.
I cannot believe in 5 days the progress we have made. It is truly remarkable to me. The boys seem happier and my husband and I feel like we have actually been able to spend time together. It sure feels better to have a marriage where you both sleep in the same bed without a toddler or two between you!

Sleep training is rough, but so worth it!! I love having good sleepers. I think it is necessary with twins. You’re a good twin mommy!

Thank you Mary! It is so essential. I wish I had started earlier!

YAY! That is awesome. I know how hard the sleep training is for one baby, I can’t even imagine trying to make it happen with two! I actually have twin little sisters, but I don’t remember how my mom got them to sleep through the night…I just remember a lot of annoying crying. Hehe! :)
Your life will seriously seem 10x better after just a few good nights of sleep! It’s amazing!
(and yay for you for donating blood – very important and I agree, more people should do it)

Thank you Mo for your encouragement and positive words. They mean a lot to me!

Congrats on the sleep training success! Life really is so much better when YOU get some sleep and the kids are so quick to pick up on what they need to be doing. Now whether they choose to or not is a totally different story ;-) As for potty training, well, I was terrified myself, but now on the other side with at least one kid I can say hang tight. It’s not as horrible as I imagined, yes I did a lot of cleaning the first week or two, but again, kids are quick learnings for sure. So glad you got a night out too. Even more important than anything is to give yourself a break so you can recharge your batteries and head into another day (and night!) Cheers to another amazing night tonight for you!
