Today was an unusual day. I thought that my post would be all about how this seemed to be a “blip” in the sleep training because the boys’ behaviour throughout the day was much different. They seemed tired all day. They were groggy, rubbed their eyes and did numerous large wide mouthed yawns. It was strange.
Naptime
At 12:30 I went to put them down and they kicked, screamed and refused to go upstairs. This was a radical departure from the previous day where they seemed to want to go to bed. Today they went to their beds, with a fight, cried for a bit and then slept. They were down for about 2 hours, woke up talking and hung out in their cribs for an additional 30 minutes. I went and got them out at 3pm. They went downstairs and right to playing.
The afternoon was also strange. We went outside to play but they seemed bored with everything. I got out our new sidewalk chalk and they played with it for a bit, then went to the door to the house opened it and went inside. Usually, when I ask them to come inside they protest, pout and stomp.
Bedtime
At 6:30pm my husband and I started the bedtime routine and unlike last night the boys were NOT happy to be going to bed. They fought brushing their teeth, and didn’t want to read a story. They didn’t want to get in their cribs and cried for about 5-10 minutes once we had left. My husband went up once and checked and it was just one was awake. A hug, a drink of water and my husband left the room. He then proceeded to talk and play in his crib until 8:30. We didn’t go up again because he sounded content.
My husband and I predicting that this strange behaviour would equal strange night behaviour went to bed earlier than usual.
But, to our surprise…
THEY SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT
Not a peep (or at least not one we heard) was uttered.
At 7:20 am they both awoke, happy, smiling, and ready to take on the day.
We all had a lovely breakfast and then I took the boys to gymnastics.
Fingers crossed for a repeat performance tonight!
