This week has seen Ontario blanketed with an ice storm that has not hit this area in more than a decade. While the weather warnings came well in advance, there is little that can be done to prepare for days of freezing rain. Where I live we were hit with freezing rain and a snow mixture for two days. It covered everything in it’s wake. While some power outages happened we were very lucky to have not been affected and the only hardship we faced was being stuck inside with twin 3 year olds for two days!
After the rain had stopped we journeyed outside for some playtime fun. I had the opportunity to take some photos of the beautiful ice freezing time if only for a moment.
The burning bush so red in the coolness of Winter with a pine needle frozen in the midst.
I love the way the Blue Spruce needles stick out like porcupine quills when covered in ice. And the droop of the Cedar bent under the weight.
Ice storms always remind me of a poem I read in high school, The Birches by Robert Frost. If you haven’t read the poem, here is an excerpt read by the author. I hope you find The Birches as enchanting as I do.
Even our dog, Jackson loves the snow and ice.
What is your favourite part of Winter?

Lovely pictures! I find winter very pretty. Here in Alberta it tends to go on too long though. By about March I’m ready for it to be spring and mother nature has other ideas.

My favorite part of winter is the time we spend out side in the snow making memories. Warm hot chocolate and that frozen beauty you photographed. :D

Beautiful photos! We’ve also been effected by the ice storm here in Toronto and my grandparents’ house only came back on late in Christmas day! (They stayed with the family until it came back on.) My favourite part of winter is playing outdoors with the kids and enjoying the wintery landscape.

Those are great photo’s – I really like seeing the tree’s covered in snow – so pretty! My favorite part of winter is the fun my boys have playing outside! My hubby builds a sled run in the front yard, and they can spend hours sledding

Beautiful photos, we have had some pretty extreme weather lately too, a huge ice storm and lots of snow and power outages. But even with the inconvenience, you can’t help but marvel at the beauty of ice covered trees and a pristine snowfall!

I always find everything pretty after an ice storm, but don’t like the outcome, where I live we only lost our hydro for 12 hours and I didn’t like that at all, felt sorry for the ones who had no hydro for up to nine days and it had to happen right at Christmas time too, it sure was a devastating time
