One of my favorite parts of the holidays are the traditions. I love to talk to people about the ones their families hold dear. Whether it be a cultural tradition or one they created themselves each and every one is important, cherished and full of memories and heartwarming stories.
The boys are beginning to enjoy decorating the tree. Slowly we are getting more and more kid-friendly ornaments that they can place on themselves. They are particular fans of the metal horns on the tree which they insist on blowing into like trumpets every time they walk past it.
As a child I loved my family’s nativity scene but since it was made of glass it was on the shelf and could not be touched. Last year, when I saw that Little People had put out a nativity scene that the boys could play with I had to get it. Now, it is one of their favorite parts of Christmas. Moving the pieces around as I tell the story of Christmas. Looking forward to the day when they can help me tell the story.
As a foodie family, we love Christmas baking. Two of this year’s favorites were Glazed Citrus Cookies and Chocolate Chip Shortbread. We make a few others but every year I love to try out new recipes hoping to one day have a collection of cookies we associate with the season.
Tonight my husband and I are heading to one of my favorite Christmas traditions, my high school friends’ 20th annual “potluck.” For twenty years we have been gathering in our hometown to celebrate Christmas and our long lasting friendship.
What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?

We are just starting out our “own” family traditions since it’s only baby girl’s second Christmas, but we like to go last-minute shopping together and spend time with family. We read a different Christmas book to our daughter each night. We hope to create even more traditions as our family grows :)
Merry Christmas! xoxo

Isn’t it exciting to start your own traditions? Amazing to think that you will create memories that your children will associate with Christmas in your family. :)

This is the cutest blog design ever. I love it. Oh well I like that cute nativity set. Adorable. I bought my daughter a mini one for in her room. She enjoys seeing it there. Our tradition is getting together the night before with my husband’s family. And also we like to have bacon and eggs one morning for breakfast and do some fun skating activities when we are able.

This is baby’s frist Christmas. Last year Chris and I started a tradition of making gingerbread cookies (read decorating store-bought ones) while watching Christmas movies.
I’ve been going to a friend’s Christmas party for 16 years – it’s a great way to catch up and spend time :)
Merry Christmas! :)

Thanks Randa! We love the Nativity Scene. We sang Happy Birthday to Baby Jesus on Christmas day. A pretty cute moment in our house.

Our traditions have changed over the years as we have moved province to province. When we lived out west we would go up to a mountain just so we would have snow. The ones that have always stuck are a gift for each child Christmas eve, family, food and fun and Christmas lights, lots and lots of lights

Great family traditions!
Growing up we used to go to midnight mass (at midnight) and then we would head to Grandma and Grandpa’s for a big feast/celebration. We would get home around 2-3am and would always wake up super early to open presents.
Christmas is a little different now with my own children. We alternate between families each year. This year we are spending Christmas Eve and Day with my family.
Happy Holidays!

Your poor parents with the late night and early morning! That would be exhausting. Hope you had a wonderful holiday with your family.
