Last night I went to see my celebrity crush in concert. For as long as I can remember I have been madly in love with Jon Bon Jovi and his band, Bon Jovi.
My best friend from Kindergarten and I used to perform air bands/lip synch performances of Bon Jovi’s hits in her basement. We idolized them. We read every word every written about their professional and personal lives. We loved them, big hair and all.
Years later, I still love them. Whether I am listening to their Greatest Hits of a new release I am drawn to their music. There isn’t a car trip that hasn’t involved me singing Livin’ on a Prayer at the top of my lungs.
Their music reminds me of my childhood, first dates, first loves, and everything in between. It is the music that has been the soundtrack to my life and a constant on my record player/Walkman/Discman/iPod.
Last night was my 5th time seeing them in concert. Yes, many of the songs are the same, but every performance is different. The stage show, the interaction with the crowd and the pure love they have for performing is apparent in every song they sing. After 30 years of performing, writing, and producing music you’d think they would be tired, disengaged and ready to sit back and enjoy their riches. Bon Jovi is a rare gem in the music world. They haven’t conformed to the over produced shows or the glitz and the glamour of newer artists. It really is all about the music and their fans.
This performance was the first time I’d gone with my husband. Usually, my concert date is the same best friend from Kindergarten that performed with me in her basement. I thought it was about time I took my husband to my favorite entertainment. While he was a bit jealous of my overwhelming love for Jon, he was happy to rock out with me.

Fond memories of seeing Bon Jovi twice while in high school (20+) years ago. My mom was able to score some front row tickets to one of the concerts. I will never forget it. I was a huge fan of those Jersey boys. I had a life size poster of Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora hanging in my bedroom. Good times. They do put on a great show. So glad you got to see them again… and this time with your hubby. Thanks for sharing!
Blessings,
Nici

Nici – front row seats! Wow! I don’t know if I could handle being that close :)
I am in awe of how fantastic they are after 30 years. Remarkable artists, and pretty cute too!

Love that you have similar memories to me. It’s amazing how an artist can bring you back to all the times you listened to their music.

I’ve never seem Bon Jovi! However I saw him walking around in Toronto’s chic area, Yorkville.
My last concert was recent in October or November?? It was to my gal Madonna. I loved her when I was little and was jumping around my bed lip syncing to Borderline or Get into the Groove. That’s my song ;)

I haven’t seen Bon Jovi in concert (although I would like to – I am SO that girl who freaks out when Livin’ On a Prayer plays at the bar).
The way you describe Bon Jovi is exactly how I feel about Backstreet Boys. I’ve seen them in concert probably 15 times or more. I grew up with them and I will go to their concerts as long as they perform. in June 2011 my daughter went while she was in my stomach. I always stick it to my partner that BSB was our daughter’s first concert lol.

I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t love Livin’ on a Prayer! Love your story of the BSB I think everyone has that group/artist that is their all time favorite. Brings back such great memories.

I haven’t seen Bon Jovi in concert although my cousin has tried to drag me there every time he is in town. I hear they’re awesome live but I am not a big enough fan to go. I save my concert money for NKOTB – so embarrassed to admit that. OK and Madonna if she were to come back to Toronto one day!

I’ve seen NKOTB as well, a long time ago. Have lots of friends who save their money to see them now as well. No shame, own the NKOTB love!

I’ve never seen Bon Jovi live, even though they are one of my favourite bands. My favourite shows I have ever been to are Pearl Jam (twice), Foo Fighters and Green Day. All three of those bands put on very different but equally spectacular performances!

I LOVE Bon Jovi! Those pics are amazing! My “crush” from growing up has to be Aerosmith who I have seen three times so far. LOVE. However, I would have to quickly dump my “Love in an Elevator” for a glimpse of Adam Levine. *swoon*

I saw Bon Jovi on Sunday – sat in the cheap seats behind the stage. Went again on Monday night with better seats. They always put on a great show – Jon Bon Jovi was much more animated last night than on Sunday and the playlist was a much better mixture of songs (on Sunday they played a whole whack of the new songs all together).
Guess what? They are coming back in the fall!! Start saving your $$$$ for your tix!

BTW — where were your seats. You were either really close or got a good camera past security!
