Value-Based Education
How Catholic Teachers Deliver Value-Based Education
Catholic teachers deliver lessons that extend beyond math, science, and history. They shape the character and values of the students they teach. Simply put, Catholic teachers provide lessons for life. Because in the end, life is the test.
My boys live in a world filled with electronics, digital media, information overload, and distractions. They must learn to navigate through social media, while also understanding that their role in their community is important. I want my boys to vote, to volunteer and to show empathy and compassion. I feel that their Catholic school is the right place for them to learn about all of this and more.

We abruptly changed our thinking on this entirely when my oldest started high school. We were in public school and she was intending to attend a public high school with friends, but then we switched boards to move her to a Catholic high school in late August before she was due to begin high school. This was the smartest decision we have made in maybe a decade of parenting. It has made a dramatic difference. I find the attitude and class sizes to be much nicer all around. This fits our family. There are good teachers in every school. You don’t always get them every year but we’ve lucked out since she started high school. The kids still have similar challenges and issues but I trust the principal, vice principal, chaplain, guidance and teachers all to support what I am trying to do at home here with my daughter.

So true about the electronics and information overload. In addition to a solid foundation in the basics, it still really comes down to we need to always be educating our kids in values such as respect for self and others.

These were the same reasons we choose Catholic education for our children. I wanted them to learn about community and an emphasis on values. Our school is smaller but the kids get along well from Grade 8 to kindergarten! They look after each other and play with each other. They also give back to their school community and community at large. It was definitely the best decision we ever made.

yes! Love the smaller school. Today I was in helping with some science and the Grade 7s were there teaching the Grade 1s – love that!

As a parent, we choose what we think is the best educational option for our children. It seems like you put a lot of thought into your own decision.

Thank you – and yes definitely wanted to weigh my options. Lucky we have options in Ontario for different schools for our kids needs.
