My grandmother made the best milkshakes and floats that I have ever tasted. Thick, perfectly flavoured made with love. Love was always her secret ingredient. Now that I am a mom I think more and more about my favourite memories from my childhood. Swimming in Florida, running through the woods near my house and skating on a frozen lake. Milkshakes were something I loved Winter and summer and so I recreated my grandmother’s favourite, an old fashioned strawberry milkshake.
- 2 cups frozen strawberries whole or halved
- 2-4 scoops of full cream vanilla ice cream # of scoops depends on desired thickness of the milkshake
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Sprinkles of whipped cream to garnish
-
Place all ingredients in a Vitamix (or high powered blender) and blend until smooth.
-
Add more milk or more ice cream depending on your desired thickness.
-
Top with sprinkles/whipped cream before serving.
The great thing about a milkshake is how it makes you feel. For me, I am instantly transported to my grandmother’s living room playing hours of Cribbage and Crokinole drinking milkshakes out of my tiger glass that I got at an Esso gas station as a kid.
Do you have any special milkshake memories?
