How do you decide whether or not to drive a minivan?
We are in the market for a new car. we have a small SUV but finding that with out two boys, and our dog (who is enormous) there just isn’t enough room for all of us to go anywhere together. Even with roof racks full we still can’t take everything for a camping trip. I find it surprising since I felt that our Nissan Rogue was so big when we bought it. But, no, it seems with kids it is true, the minivan may be the best option.
But.
I swore I wouldn’t get one.
It’s not that I have a problem with them per se. And it definitely isn’t an issue of me thinking I am too cool for a minivan (I wish track pants were socially acceptable to be worn in public) it just isn’t me.
But.
Maybe it should be.
So now, we are thinking about all the options. Leather seats? Mounted DVD players? Roof racks? Trailer hitch? Cargo mats? Satellite radio?
I certainly remember when I was just excited that my car had a CD player!
What features were important to you now that you are a parent?

I super pink puffy heart my minivan. We bought it when I was first pregnant, and I love it so much. I keep sleds there in the winter. I never have problems with fitting things in it when I go to Costco. Our road trips are so much easier. Love the sliding doors in tight parking lots. Love, love, love the minivan.

Nicole, so great to hear! It’s such a tough call. I’ve been wavering back and forth all day!

This is the exact debate we had last year when looking into a new vehicle for our family. While everyone I know who has a minivan says they LOVE it I just couldn’t justify why we needed so much space for 2 kids. Sure it’s great to be able to fit IKEA boxes and extra people in a van but I don’t know — we don’t buy from IKEA often nor do we driving other people around very often either. LOL.
We ended up with a compact SUV instead and it suits us fine. Pretty sure my husband chose it because there is no room for another car seat in the second row so it guarantees there is no baby #3 plans. For now! ;)
