I love baking and I love making treats that are specific to a holiday or season. I was looking for a fabulous bar or cookie to take to a Halloween party and I found these Halloween Goody Bars from Life Made Delicious and I knew I had to try them. Candy, sweetened condensed milk, oats, and chocolate = delicious!
- 1 1/2 cups 375 mL quick-cooking oats
- 1 1/2 cups 375 mL all-purpose flour
- 1 cup 250 mL packed brown sugar
- 3/4 tsp 3 mL salt
- 1 cup 250 mL butter, melted
- 1 can 300 mL sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
- 1 cup 250 mL semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp 30 mL butter, softened
- 3/4 cup 175 mL orange and brown candy-coated chocolate candies
-
Heat oven to 350ºF.
-
Line a 13x9-inch pan with parchment paper, or spray with cooking spray.
-
In large bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt and 1 cup butter with spoon. Remove 1 cup; set aside for topping.
-
Press remaining mixture into pan.
-
In 2-quart saucepan, cook condensed milk, chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat, stirring constantly, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth.
-
Spread chocolate mixture over crust.
-
Sprinkle with candies and reserved oat mixture; press into chocolate mixture.
-
Bake 23 to 25 minutes or until set.
-
Cool completely (about 2 1/2 hours) Cut into 8 rows by 4 rows.
My family loved these bars. They are very rich, but that makes them perfect to cut into small squares and serve them at a gathering. With lots of Halloween parties in the next couple of weeks be sure to give these a try. Your friends and family will thank you!
