Fundraising and Haircuts

25 November 2012 | UPDATED ON: 1 July 2014

This weekend was all about the boys.  After some busy work weekends, and a travel weekend it was fun to devote my energy to the best two little people I could ask for.

Friday was the big fundraiser for the boys’ preschool.  I am really passionate about their preschool.  It is an organized co-op with one paid staff member (the teacher) and the rest of the duty, responsibilities and upkeep done by a volunteer Board and parents.  The school is forty years old and the only one of its kind in my area.  My boys go to preschool every morning from 8:45am – 11:30pm and they LOVE it.  They love everything about it.  The kids, the structure, the play time and I love that the community comes together to make this school work.  Every parents has to do a required number of ‘duty days’ at the school, we share the laundry, the toy cleaning and even the snack responsibilities.  It is a pretty wonderful place for my boys.   In my enthusiasm in September I volunteered to Chair the biggest fundraiser of the year.  (What was I thinking!!) After months of preparation and countless hours of my husband and I  (and a few others) the event happened and it was a great success.  I am SO proud to know that in one event we raised over $3100 for our little school.  Such a fulfilling and rewarding event to be a part of.

Saturday was the much dreaded trip to the salon for haircuts.  Last haircut (in June) the boys were pretty much apoplectic about getting their haircut.  I pretty much had to hold them down for it to happen and I am confident that they ruined everyone else’s haircut experience there at the time.  Needless to say, I was a bit nervous about going again.  But, their hair was long.  Crazy wild, curly hair long.  It was time.  Plus, with Christmas just around the corner I knew it had to be done.

Armed with cookies, toys and one of my best friends we headed to the salon.  To my astonishment it went okay.  The first one up sat on his own and even though he shot me dirty looks the whole time, he was patient and seemed resigned to the notion that this was happening.  Of course the next one tried to resist, but once I gave him my cell phone to play with, he was a disgruntled participant, but a motionless one.  And with little fuss we had two dapper looking young men.

Today, we woke to a dusting of snow, went out for a wonderful breakfast at a local cafe and enjoyed being together as a family.  We are rested, rejuvenated and ready to take on another busy week.

What did your family do this weekend?

Sounds like a busy weekend! My kids also hated haircuts until they were about 2 1/2. Then they were fine! Cute pictures!

Thank you Nicole. That makes me feel better. Hopefully my boys will be over the hating haircut stage soon!

Love the photos of the boys Kerrie! Oh… both my kids cried when we cut their hair the first time. DS was worse than DD. I found that if they weren’t in front of the mirror seeing scissors coming towards their head they were a lot calmer. Now my DD loves haircuts… she’s into princesses and all things girlie right now so go figure!
