Halloween Goody Bars

An easy, yummy and spirited Halloween treat. Modify the candies and it's adapted for any holiday/season.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups 375 mL quick-cooking oats
  • 1 1/2 cups 375 mL all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 250 mL packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 tsp 3 mL salt
  • 1 cup 250 mL butter, melted
  • 1 can 300 mL sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
  • 1 cup 250 mL semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp 30 mL butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup 175 mL orange and brown candy-coated chocolate candies

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Line a 13x9-inch pan with parchment paper, or spray with cooking spray.
  3. In large bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt and 1 cup butter with spoon. Remove 1 cup; set aside for topping.
  4. Press remaining mixture into pan.
  5. In 2-quart saucepan, cook condensed milk, chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat, stirring constantly, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth.
  6. Spread chocolate mixture over crust.
  7. Sprinkle with candies and reserved oat mixture; press into chocolate mixture.
  8. Bake 23 to 25 minutes or until set.
  9. Cool completely (about 2 1/2 hours) Cut into 8 rows by 4 rows.
