For the longest time – probably longer than anyone I knew I only watched Netflix on my TV or my computer. I would download programs to my iPad for travel but I was a traditionalist in my Netflixing. Then I realized the magic of watching Netflix anywhere I go. Whether it’s watching part of an episode while waiting for my boys’ school bus, or at the Doctor’s office I am now one of those people that watches Netflix in public. Are you?

Do you Netflix in Public?

I love how convenient it is to watch your favourites anywhere, anytime. We have some stats about how Canadians are watching Netflix in public – which one will you identify with?

Air travel is the top setting for Canadians binging in public (57%) and with the holidays around the corner, the Netflix Download feature is the key to keeping entertained as you travel, with or without WIFI! Here are a few more Canadian stats we think could make for a great holiday travel story:

Do you Netflix in public?

  • 63% of Canadians are concerned their holiday travel will be delayed by weather and 36% are concerned with keeping themselves entertained
  • 1 in 5 Canadians have suffered through a flight with no entertainment due to faulty in-flight systems
  • 33% of Canadians say they’ve missed the ending of what they were watching because of the landing

The survey also reveals the most common experiences for Canadians bingeing in public:

  • Nearly half (45%) of those watching on the go have caught a backseat binger snooping on their screen
  • Screen snooping can have real consequences! In fact, 20% of public bingers experience “show shame”, the feeling of embarrassment over what they were caught watching
  • The top techniques for hiding show shame include: check to see if anyone else noticed (34%); simply pretend like nothing happened and continue watching (32%); turning off the show or movie (21%) or covering the screen (17%)
  • 64% have laughed out loud to themselves while bingeing in public

We’d love to hear your favourite places to watch Netflix and any fun stories you have about seeing others watch in public. Leave them in the comments below!

Fun facts! I rarely Netflix in public because I find that I can get sucked into it to my show too easily! I also don’t like attracting too much attention/having people look over my shoulders so I tend to stick to watching sitcoms or rom-coms (safe to say I have definitely LOL’ed in public because of Netflix).

I have never used my netflix in public and never really thought of doing so. It would be great for when I’m waited for hubby at his doctor appointments!
