I have seen many examples of a DIY Succulent Terrarium on Pinterest and thought they would make the perfect teacher gifts for end of the year.  Something my boys and I could make together and I love giving a gift that will last far beyond when it is given.  The best part about making a DIY Succulent Terrarium is that they are the perfect gift for any occasion – even for wedding favours.

DIY Succulent Terrarium

What You’ll Need:

  • Mason Jar or Kitchen Jars
  • Small succulents (I used Hens n’ Chicks)
  • Cactus Soil
  • Small Rocks (optional)

Steps to Make Your Succulent Terrarium

  1. Place stones in bottom of jar (if using)
  2. Fill jar 3/4 full with cactus soil
  3. Take succulents out of container and break up soil so that only the succulent and a bit of soil/roots remain
  4. Place succulents in jar and add 1 – 2 tbsp of water.
  5. Succulent care: let soil dry out between watering.

DIY Succulent Terrarium Whether you are look for a summer planting project or looking to make gifts for someone special you will love the simplicity of this project and the simple beauty of them.

I completely have been wanting to do succulents. My only excuse is that I’m lazy – and I specifically want white ceramic little bowls and four of them to place on my immaculate coffee table (not) – it would look brilliant. Unfortunately I’m nowhere near that organised. Thank you for this though – at least I now know how to put it together! One step closer!!

I love this idea! Not only is it a great teach project, but it is one you can keep going without having to buy new plants! Each one of the ‘chicks’ can be carefully removed and planted. They will then become ‘hens’ with their own chicks. I have probably made up several dozen gifts over the years to people from the same hen n chick my neighbor gave me 7 years ago!

This is cute. I think I could keep this alive. I’ve kept my cactus alive for almost a year now – woohoo! lol
