Chocolate Covered Bacon Cupcakes

If you love the combination of sweet and salty these Chocolate Covered Bacon Cupcakes are the perfect treat for you!

Made from a deliciously moist chocolate cake and homemade chocolate buttercream icing with just the right amount of bacon! Not sure about adding the bacon then mix up the Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Icing and you have a classic dessert.

We’ve included all of the steps for the perfect cupcakes. Grab some bacon and get baking!

How to Make Chocolate Covered Bacon Cupcakes

Step 1: Make Cupcakes
Step 2: Pour batter into paper liners filling about 3/4 full.
Step 3: Divide half of the crumbled bacon into cupcakes.
Step 4: Bake cupcakes and allow to cool
Step 5: Pipe cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream
Step 6: Sprinkle cupcakes with coarse salt and crumbled bacon

Chocolate Covered Bacon Cupcakes Recipe

Ingredients:

10 pieces of cooked bacon, crumbled
1.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1.5 tsp salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking soda
1.5 tsp baking powder
3 cups white sugar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1.5 cups milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tsp vanilla
3 eggs
1.5 cups hot water

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350C.
Measure milk in a measuring cup and add lemon juice to it. Set aside.
In a stand mixer bowl add cocoa, salt, flour, baking soda, sugar, and baking powder and mix to combine.
Add vegetable oil, milk and lemon juice mixture, vanilla and eggs and beat together until smooth.
Add hot water being VERY Careful as it liquifies the mixture which can splash out of the mixer bowl.
Once fulling combined divide among cupcake liners filling 3/4 full.
Sprinkle half of the crumbled bacon (5 pieces) on top of uncooked cupcakes.
Place in oven and bake for 40 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool, ice and top with sea salt and the remainder of the crumbled bacon.

The perfect chocolate buttercream to top cakes and cupcakes. Sinfully delicious!
Ingredients
  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 3 cups icing sugar
  • ⅓ cup cocoa

  • 2-4 tbsp milk (depending on desired consistency of icing)

    Oh my… What a unique combination!

    Are you serious with this kind of decadent goodness? I have always loved the combination of salty and sweet, so this recipe sounds amazing and I’m pretty sure my family would gobble it up as soon as they hear “bacon”.

    Ha! I have seen chocolate covered bacon in Frankenmuth before. I have never tried it. I bet my grown kids would, and I am guessing they would like the flavor combo…esp. if it was in cupcake form. ;)

    the cupcakes call for unsweetened cocoa powder, and the frosting calls for Coco. Can you please confirm what kind of cocoa is to be used in the frosting? Are we still using unsweetened cocoa powder?

    Just a query how many cupcakes does this recipe make I have a school project and its limited to 60g butter and 1 egg yet this recipe uses 3 so I wanted to see if I can still make 6 cupcakes with only 1 egg.
